Project Summary
This project included a complete replacement of the Rock Creek School facility, which provides special education programs for students with complex medical conditions and severe intellectual, physical, emotional, hearing, vision, and learning disabilities from ages 3 through 21. The one-story 79,575 SF facility features a movement room, sensory room, hallway handrails, inclusive playground equipment, adaptive physical education spaces, a gymnasium with rubber flooring, accessible entryways, a therapy pool equipped with lifts for swimmers and wheelchairs, and classroom bathrooms with changing tables and privacy screens. The school was co-located adjacent to Walkersville Middle School to provide opportunities to interact with the greater student body. The project is tracking to receive a LEED Silver certification.
